Flevonice a 5 km Ice skate track
They are going crazy in Holland. Speed skating is in our blood. Having in Friesland a very traditional skate tour “De Elfstedentocht“. When the winter weather arrives in Holland and when there is enough ice the 200km tour is organized.
Nowerdays, with the global warming, the amount of time that people are skating in nature getting fewer and fewer. Skating on a boring 400m track round after round is quite boring after a while. But Dutch people are not sitting still. Instead of sending planes full of people abroad for those who want to skate in nature they have developed an other option: an 5km long track (opening 1st of December 2007).
Update: Today I visited the Flevonice they opened. There was no option of skating because of the warm weather and strong winds. I walked the track and took a few pictures fore those of you who are interested.

For a start the opening price on 1st and 2nd of December is only €5,-
Opening times 09:00 -17:00*
*when lights are fitted and working they will stay open until 21:00.
