Kalajoki Cottage

Once again, many days have passed since writing the last blog. I’ve been busy my project. I had to create the connection from Microsoft Robotics Studio to a server which was encrypted with the AES Encryption method. After days of debugging I finally managed to encrypt and decrypt text messages from the server. I had other things on my mind, my report, that needs finishing as well.

Last week my parents visited me. We stayed in a nice holiday cottage in the dunes near Kalajoki. With stunning sunsets at Kalajoki and a few city trips to Kokkola and other cities I can’t remember. Made use of the sauna in the cottage almost every evening. Visited Santa clause in the Santa Claus Village near Rovaniemi. Its a big commercial place, but it was nice although it was really quiet. Who expects it to be busy in the beginning of may
Celebrated Rinze his birthday on Wednesday 6th. I got a present as well because my birthday wasn’t celebrated properly in Tallinn few months ago. So I got a nice glass and other bottle Finlandia, which i can add to my collection

We went to the smoke sauna again near Alavieska. It was a bit more expensive than last time. We paid 5 euros now instead of the 2/2,50 last time Nevertheless the sauna was nice and we could see the smoke sauna in the sun. Last time we went the sun was already set.
Last week the 24 liters of cider was ready for bottling. Pictures in the gallery and maybe a stop motion movie later. Visit my parents again in Kalajoki for the weekend. Had a nice hiking trip and a BBQ with a nice sunset again. Thats it for now, hopefully more later.

Last week summary

So, I’ve found some time to write another story. I did some research in how Microsoft Robotics Studio works and how to use it properly. I went through some tutorials and tried to understand how the code works behind each ‘block’. This week I will talk with Mika and agree about the project goals.
Food: At the university you can have lunch for 2,30 euros. For the amount of food you can dish up its pretty good. It’s a surprise everyday what we get. Although the cooked potatoes are there every time. (Something Dutch ). It might be fun to photograph each dish each day. Then we can remember what we ate on a specific day.
Cider: I started the cider last week. I’ve added a bit more sugar on wednesday and yesterday. It started to bubble again although I think it might be on the cold side in the bathroom. So the bucket is wrapped in a blanket which I hope to keep warm/hot the next couple of days.

I think i’ve forgoten the other things that happened last week. Watched the movie ‘The Prestige’, made a snowman. Went to the sauna and from there going outside were it was snowing Oh almost forgot I can count to 10 in Finnish Yksie, kaksie…

Project Cider

So, i’ve started to create my own Cider.

I bought a Cider kit and a big 30 litre bucket, and on Sunday evening I started the brew. You can see here almost each step of creating the Cider. I poured the cider concentrate in a big bucket and added 2 litres of sugar water. Filled the bucket to 20 litres. Then add the yeast to it, mixed it through and let it rest in a nice warm place. The bucket stays under the sink in the bathroom, were its nice and warm Hopefully we won’t get drunk while taking a shower… and girls, its not ready yet!

After just 1 day we knew the yeast was having a good time in the bucket.

Cold in Zeist

Behind the windows at home it’s very nice. A clear sky and a nice sun triggered us to go for a walk in the forest and of course I had a camera with me to take some nice pictures. And YESS it was COLD!!
