For a project i needed temporarily an CentOS server. I decided to install it on the former SUN virtual box, nowerday’s owned by Oracle.

Before i stared i also downloaded a netinstall.iso from one of the CentOS mirrors. Just a small ISO to get quickly started with CentOS.

After downloading the virtual box i started with creating a virtual machine. I connected the ISO to the CD-ROM drive of the virtual machine. When booting the virtual machine the installation started. By just supplying the folowing information:

  1. select linux text mode
  2. select language (English)
  3. enable ipv4, i disabled ipv6
  4. select http setup
  5. Supply the mirror information ( ‘ftp.tudelft.nl’ ; ‘centos.org/5.4/os/i386/’ )
  6. erase hdd structure create linux default
  7. enable eth0 ipv4
  8. tcp/ip configuration DHCP
  9. hostname ‘mycentos’
  10. Enter root’s password
  11. Select the package installation (‘server’)
  12. DONE!!

In notime you are up and running with a CentOS server.

Remember this is a bare installation the CentOS. You need to install now the needed program’s
